Welcome to year 1!

Our topic for Autumn 2 was 'Light
Fantastic'. We learnt about Bonfire Night and The
Gunpowder Plot. We made firework pictures. Then we
learnt about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We retold
the story of Rama and Sita and made barfi and rangoli patterns.
Next we learnt about the Jewish Festival of Hannukah. We
played the driedle game and made our own driedles and hannykist
candlesticks. Christmas arrived in Year
1 with our concert 'Children of the World'. We loved learning
the songs and performing for our parents. We wrote about the
Nativity Story and made Christmas cards, trees, lanterns and stained
glass windows. |

Our context for learning in Autumn 1 was SPACE
and we enjoyed learning about things we find in space, rockets
and even went hunting around the school for aliens!
We used clay to design and make our own aliens –
we made our very own planet using junk for them to live on as well.
Look how much fun we had making them!

We also have been doing
Write Dance during our P.E sessions. First we learn a dance to
music and then we use pens to draw the story as the music plays.

PC Sara came in to visit
us. We talked about keeping safe when we are out and who to call if
we have an emergency. We listened very carefully and then got to
try on some of the uniform! |
