There have been many superb examples of teamwork
at Coryton over the past month. We have held a brilliant
Environment Day where we worked
together to improve areas of the school. The
children enjoyed exciting sports days which were well supported by
our parents. The school choir sang beautifully at the Whitchurch Festival Schools Concert and our quiz team were
victorious in the Whitchurch Schools Quiz competition. Also,
the Eco-committee has worked exceptionally hard to help the school
retain our Green Flag status earlier this month.
These are all recent examples of teamwork at our
school. However, this has been the case all the way through
the academic year. I would like to thank the parents on behalf
of the Governors and staff at our school for the amazing support
that you have shown throughout the year which has enabled our
children to have the very best experiences when they come to school.
Thanks again for your continued support and I
hope that you have a lovely summer.

CLASS NEWS
Nursery
We have loved being pirates! We dressed up and
went to Cardiff Bay with our parents. We went on a boat to
Penarth. We are really looking forward to our pirate party!
RECEPTION
Our topic has been 'Once Upon a Time.' We
have looked at fairytales and made an enchanted forest for role
play. We have made spells and potions and our own fairytale.
We visited the gardens behind the school and have had a visit form
the Gruffalo. We had a party with Gruffalo games and ice
cream.
Year 1
We have been working in the local area, drawing
maps of our classroom, school and parks. We really enjoyed
seeing the dinosaurs at Dan-Yr-Ogof caves and had a lovely picnic.
Sports Day was great fun! We had medals for our super
performances.
Year 2 During
this half term we have been learning about Africa. We have
learnt about teams in the World Cup and sampled food from different
countries. We are now going to raise some money for the
children in Africa by wearing wellies to school and having a cake
sale.
J1
We carried out research on countries taking part
in the World Cup. We have made football board games, composed
football songs, created South African fruit smoothies and tried our
hands at South African art.
J2
We had fun learning about our selected countries
for the World Cup. Our trip to Big Pit was a hit with everyone
but, my, the battery packs were heavy! We are really glad we
don't have to work in the mines. What a job it must have been!
Pen licences are still being issued and we are hoping that everyone
will receive one by the end of term.
J3
We have had a very busy month. At class
assembly...we were great. At Sports Day....we were fast!
We have had a fantastic year and as the term winds down we are
thinking about how we can be even better learners next year.
J4
World Cup fever has hit the Juniors! We
have researched ingredients and made food from around the world.
We have made healthy snacks for athletes. We have found out
about famous South African people from the past and present.
Our context for learning culminated in a
Coryton World Cup tournament with commentators from J4. We
are now working on our farewell assembly.
PTA NEWS
Thank you to everyone who supported the BBQ and
Quiz evening. A good time was had by all and a tremendous
£428.65 was raised for the school. The next event will be the
end of year disco which takes place on Thursday 8th July.
JUNIOR SCHOOLS CONCERT
Coryton School Choir took part in the Whitchurch
Festival Primary Schools Concert at Bethel Baptist Church. Led
very ably by Mrs Harris the children sang beautifully and were a
credit to the school. Thank you to all the parents who came to
support that evening.
ENVIRONMENT DAY
On Friday 18th June we held an
Environment Day in school.
All the children, staff, some governors and parents worked
throughout the day to improve a different aspect of the school
environment. The children worked together to paint, plant,
wash and build. We were helped by volunteers from BT, students
from Coleg Bro Morgannwg and we received donations from Asda, Robert
Price Builders, Caerphilly Garden Centre, Wicks and parents.
Thank you for your support! During the afternoon we were
visited by Sam Warburton, the Welsh international rugby player.
Sam signed autographs and raised our brand new Green Flag which was
awarded to us recently because we work so hard to look after our
environment.
CONGRATULATIONS....
To Jamie Richards, Year 4 who recently won an all
age skateboarding competition. To Sam Dowden, Year 4 who took
part in the Whitchurch High School Orchestra course and has been
selected to play clarinet for the County Ensenble. To yellow
house who won the Junior Sports Day. To Lauren Bland, Tom
Simister, Emily Cooper and Luke Ebbens who won the Whitchurch
Primary Schools Quiz last week. And to all the children of
Coryton Primary School who took part in the Sports Day activities.
Well done to you all. We're really proud of you!
