At the end of the 2010 - 2011
school year, Years 2 and 3 took part in an art project with Year 9
pupils from Whitchurch High School. The aim of the project was
to design and create a clay sculpture for the school grounds.
The children looked around the
school grounds for interesting shapes, patterns and textures in
nature. They sketched details for use in their designs.
Back in the classroom, the
children worked on their tile designs incorporating the sketches
they had made outside and adding a little imagination!
Then Miss Heeney taught us the
techniques of using clay to help us to make our clay tiles.
We carefully carried our tiles to
the paper template and placed them in the right position. The
tiles were then taken back to Whitchurch High School for firing
before being assembled for our outside school display.
Mrs Reid runs an Art Club on
Mondays and we are currently recreating the art of famous artists
through the ages. The children work really hard and have a
great time using different media each week to create so many
different styles of art.
The painting above is one of our
best masterpieces to date! It took us about 8 hours to
recreate this classic Seurat painting using a technique known as
Pointillism - that's dots, dots and more dots!!
