CORYTON
PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY

October 2011
Please
find attached a summary report from the Governing Body of Coryton
Primary School, of the work of the school during the academic year
2010/11. The full report is available from school on request. Should
parents wish, a meeting at which the report can be discussed, will
be held on Monday 7th November at 6pm. However parents should
complete and send in to school the accompanying form to request this
meeting. A meeting will not take place this year should there be
less than a 5% response requesting the meeting.
The
Governing Body would like to thank the staff of the school, both
teaching and non teaching, for all their hard work during 2010/11
and to congratulate them once again on the high standards of
achievement and provision. Over the past two years the school has
attracted a large number of new pupils which has seen the numbers on
roll increase significantly and therefore have a positive financial
effect on the school.
A
large part of the success of the school arises from the quality of
relationships between the school and parents, and the support which
parents give to Mr O’Connell and his team. The Governors would like
to thank parents for their contribution to this very happy and
successful school.

The Governing Body
The Governors’
aims for the school reflect their concern for the welfare of
pupils and the provision of a secure, caring environment where
positive attitudes and values are nurtured. Details of the full
Governing body can be found in Appendix 1. |
Standards of
Achievement
Pupils continue
to achieve good standards across the curriculum. Details of End
of Key Stage results are included as Appendix 2. The results
have led us to again prioritise Numeracy, Literacy and
Assessment on the 2011-12 School Improvement Plan. |
Foundation Phase
Pupils in the
age group 3-7years now follow a Foundation Phase curriculum
which allows children to learn in a less formal, child centred
way which helps develop independence, thinking, autonomy and
personal and social skills. |
|
Curriculum 2008
At Key Stage 2
the curriculum is being developed which focuses on the
development of skills set within meaningful contexts for
learning. This curriculum is being designed to develop the
thinking, communication, mathematical and ICT skills of our
learners. |
S.E.N.
During the
academic year 2010/11 23.5% of
children received support for Special Educational Needs at
School Action or School Action+.
|
Attendance
The school is
required to set annual targets to improve attendance. WAG has
set a national target of 95% attendance for all schools. The
school’s attendance figures usually hits this target. Full
details of attendance in 2010-11 can be found in Appendix 4. |
|
Budget
A large number
of new pupils have been attracted to the school. This has had a
positive effect on the school’s finances which has seen a
significant increase in the amount of money spent on resources
for the children. It has also enabled the Governing Body to
forecast a stable staffing scenario over the next 3 years.
Full details
of the out-turn of expenditure can be found in Appendix 3. |
Staffing
Staffing has remained settled in the school and more
teaching assistants have been employed to support the Foundation
Phase, develop learning and work with pupils with individual
needs.
|
Wider Learning Experiences
During 2010/11
the children experienced a wide range of learning activities.
These included educational visits and workshops, visiting
speakers, music and drama, sports coaching and storytelling
sessions. The children have visited museums, galleries, science
venues, and attended sporting events. They contribute to sharing
their learning experiences with the wider community through
Newsletters.

Wrap Around Care
In response to
parental enquiries at an earlier AGM the Governing Body
successfully applied for funding in 1998 to set up an After
School Club called FUNZONE. The club has been running
successfully for ten years between 3:30 and 6:00 pm every school
day, and is run by qualified Playworkers. A maximum 48 children
can be accommodated.
Both Breakfast
and After School Clubs have focussed on healthy eating in the
last year.
|
|
Pupil Voice
The school Eco
Committee continued to meet and discuss ways of improving the
environment and saving energy. They played a significant role in
the renewal of our Green Flag. The School Council ratify the
School Rules created by Year 6 pupils. The School Council lead
their own Peer to Present Assembly on a fortnightly basis. |
Home/School Links
Meetings for
parents during the year have included termly Open Evenings,
Curriculum meetings and Welcome Evenings. In addition parents
have been invited to attend class assemblies, Harvest Festival,
Christmas Carol Service and concerts, St David’ s Day concert,
Sports Day and the Leavers’ Service. |
P.T.A
The Governing
Body wish to thank The Parents and Teacher Association which
again worked tirelessly to organise events in order to raise
funds for the school and add to the wider experiences that our
children receive. Money raised in 2010/11 has been used to
purchase 16 laptops and a laptop bus. This is already having a
positive impact on pupil learning. |
