CORYTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

2010/2011 was an exciting year for our school. We began a project
in association with the British Council which will open the
children’s horizons and introduce them to fellow pupils all over
Europe. During the next 2 years, Coryton will be partnered with
schools in a number of countries and will be working on joint
projects. The title of the 2 year project
is Work, Rest and Play.
|
|
In November 2012, the project began in earnest
with teachers from the participating schools across Europe coming to
Cardiff! The 16 teachers of 6 nationalities had a busy
itinerary. First they visited our school and introduced
themselves to the children during a special assembly. The
teachers told us a little about their own schools and we exchanged
gifts. They then had a tour around the
school, visiting classes and watching lessons as well as being
quizzed by the children about their own schools.
During the next few days, the teachers were
taken to the Mayor's House for a special welcome, for a tour around
Cardiff Bay, to St. Fagans Museum of Welsh Life (with year 3 and
year 4) and on a tour around Cardiff Castle.
The evenings were spent with the teachers from
Coryton School. We went for a pizza and bowling one night, to
the school Christmas Fayre another and for farewell drinks in town
on their last night in Cardiff.
We all had a fantastic few days and really
enjoyed meeting teachers from other schools and learning about how
children learn in different countries.
We have exchanged books made by pupils so that the children
can learn about all the other schools and look at pictures of childrens' lives in different countries. Each class have also
studied one of the 6 European countries in detail looking at ways of
life, customs and traditions, food, music, architecture and many
more things. A real learning experience!

International links
–Spring 2011
Mrs Gladman spent a week in a school in
Bordeaux, France learning about the French school system, building
up links with the school, developing ways to teach a language and
trying to improve her French.
The following photos give a flavour of the school
– Elémentaire Claverie, which is similar in size to Coryton.
Please note that Mrs Gladman is not allowed to
publish photos on the Coryton website that show pupils from the
French school.

During the Easter holidays and for the first week of the summer
term 2010, Mrs. Harris began forging the first of our European links by
visiting a school in Bordeaux (Ecole Carle Vernet) and staying with
one of its teachers. She had a marvellous experience and, as well as
trying to learn French very quickly, taught the French pupils Welsh
country dancing, songs in Welsh and English and gave them gifts to
show the culture of Wales and the traditions of our school in
Coryton. Year 6 have already begun emailing some of CM1’s pupils.
